Giving up on Democracy?

Mustafa Hirji (email) at 08:02 PM

There are a great many objectional thrusts to U.S. foreign policy that are unbecoming of a country that is founded on peace, freedom, and individual rights. One of the positive thrusts under the Bush era, however, has been its nominal committment to spreading democracy, and their, albeit tepid, willingness to use their influence will allies to spread some elements of democracy (e.g. Saudi Arabia, Egypt). Unfortunately, it appears that the U.S. is now giving up on these small guestures. If this is a sustained pattern, it is abandoning most of the moral backbone left in U.S. foreign policy.
